Samsung supports its older smartphones with software updates for four years. Many well-known models have already been discontinued and no longer receive updates. The Galaxy Note 20 is currently at this critical juncture. Samsung has given the old phone the latest software update, likely breathing new life into it for the last time.

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Receives August Update
Samsung launched the Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra in August 2020. Since then, four years have passed, and the update promise from back then officially expires. Currently, the Note 20 models are receiving the latest August update in initial countries like the USA. After this, the future of the last true Note smartphones remains unclear.

It currently appears that Samsung wants to quickly phase out the last Note smartphones. The July update was released in early August, and at that time, it was unclear whether the August update would follow. Now, shortly afterward, a new and presumably final update has been released. The new version addresses 50 security vulnerabilities.

It always depends on how precisely Samsung counts. A September update is still possible, but that would be the end—unless a critical security vulnerability arises. Samsung has previously updated completely written-off phones because many people still used the devices. This could theoretically happen here as well. We will keep an eye on the development for you.

Many Samsung Smartphones Receive August Update
The rollout of the August update for Galaxy phones is in full swing. It all started with the Galaxy S24 smartphones, but with a disappointment, as the anticipated camera update with One UI 6.1.1 was not included. Therefore, the beta test of Android 15 and One UI 7 cannot start yet. The Galaxy S22 smartphones followed next. If you own a more recent phone, you will receive the August update in the near future.
