15/06/2010 13:26

Russian intelligence intends to purchase from French corporation FELIN equipment for special forces "soldier of the future". This was reported by Deputy Defense Minister of Russia, the commander of the Armed Forces Vladimir Popovkin. According to him that Russian experts will examine whether the new outfit complies with those indicators that manufacturers say they possess. At that, according to Popovkin, for Russia important is not the amount of purchased weapons but technology that "Russia should be in possession of."

Earlier it was reported that Russia intends to buy abroad not only helicopter carrier class Mistral, but drones as well. Purchase of a large quantity of arms from Israel was also discussed. It should be emphasized that Russia intends to purchase all weapons only together with technology. In connection with this conclusions suggests themselves:

Russia studies foreign defense technology from a perspective of their weaknesses for possible future war;

Russia has completely abandoned restoration of its defense industry for the lack of expertise and financial resources;

Russia intends to obtain Western technology to strengthen its own defense, which, as the war in 2008 showed, it actually does not possess;

Russian industry intelligence is not capable of obtaining appropriate technology, therefore it requires formal procurement. Even in these conditions, as in the case of drones, Russia has no specialists who could create an operable copy without technology.
