As the May 11th, 2010 issue of Abkhazian newspaper Nuzhnaya reports a meeting was held between students and professors of the University of Abkhazia and representative of the Russian Orthodox Church Andrei Kuraev and head of local Orthodox congregation Besaion Aplia.

According to the newspaper tranquil and academic mood of the audience was spoiled by a question asked by Andrei Kurayev whether they recognized Besrion Aplia as their spiritual parent.

Silence that followed that question was interrupted by Besaron Aplia who announced that attempts of some people to present Christianity and Islam as equal in rights is unjustifiable and that Christianity should be declared state religion of Abkhazia.

Aplia did not agree with the position of other participants of the meeting who maintained that all religions should have equal rights. In his opinion Orthodox Christianity is more acceptable for Abkhazians as thy can address God in their mother tomgue while Islam is a religion that was imposed by Arabs by fire and sword.

This assessment of Aplia was protested by Adyge student of the University of Abkhazia Anzor Kanonokov who asked him as to what were his grounds for making such categorical demands and whether he (Aplia) was historian or scholar of the Islamic religion. And Adyge student received a very straightforward answer that he was neither of them. But he had not said who he was.

We would like to assist Mister Kanonokov in determining a person of Besarion Aplia.

Besarion Aplia aka Besarion Ionovich Filia was born in a village of Likhny of the Gudauta district. He graduated from industrial secondary school of Sukhumi and Trade secondary school of Batumi. In his youth he had great respect for traditions of the underworld. He was convicted for theft. He did time in Georgian and Russian prisons. They say that during his time in prison prisoners who were keen on gambling were using him to choose prisoners who had wealthy relatives but were naive and then even shared money that they extracted from those prisoners with Aplia.

In prison he got to know and later became friends with well-known person in the underworld Vyacheslav Ivankov a.k.a. Iaponchik. On October 13th 2009 by decision of the Russian underworld and in respect of their deceased leader "Iaponchik" old friend of the latter "father" Besarion Aplia was brought to Moscow with special invitation to perform a funeral ceremony.

Just this small extract of biography of Besarion Aplia is enough to understand what kind of spiritual parent and mediator between heaven and earth he could be. So Anzor Kanonokov should not be surprised if Besarion Aplia is dealing with such lofty matters as religion, beliefs, human respectability and so on according to old underworld methods.

If Kanonokov is interested he can find out from old congregation of the Likhny Church how after orgies with high-rank Russian military officials drunken Aplia used to go to the church and verbally and physically assault them.

Everyone knows that Russian security services are behind this shameless "holly father" and he was and will be fulfilling their tasks everywhere and always.

But still general public cannot understand why the Russian Orthodox Church patronizes the person with such past and such mentality and why they award them with high church orders.

Interesting to know how the Russian Orthodox Church will assess action of their representative Andrey Kurayev whose openly provocative question caused such protest in the audience as the newspaper reports.

We are sure that the incident that took place in the University of Abkhazia was not accidental. Now Besarion Aplia is set to cause other confrontations between other religions and their followers. It is also obvious who is interested in this and into whose hands it plays.
