Justice Minister of Georgia Zurab Adeishvili handed the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) Luis Moreno Ocampo information about the ethnic cleansing of Georgian population during the Russian aggression against Georgia in August 2008.

According to the Justice Ministry, Adeishvili met with Ocampo on March 18th in The Hague and the parties discussed issues of bilateral cooperation. It was noted that this was the third meeting between the Minister of Justice of Georgia with the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court. The first two were held in autumn 2008.

International courts are hearing three cases of Georgia vs. Russia. Two lawsuits have been filed in the European Court of Human Rights (Strasbourg). They concern human rights violations during the mass deportation of ethnic Georgians from Russia in 2006 and during the "August" War of 2008. The third lawsuit against Russia with accusations of ethnic cleansing of Georgian population has been introduced in the International Court of Justice (ICJ). In particular, Georgia accuses Russia of violating the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination.
