Georgians in Abkhazia checked for passports
13/07/2012 15:13

Passport check has begun in the Georgian-populated Gali district of Abkhazia. According to head of Gali police Laurens Kogonia, this action is carried out in connection with "frequent killings of civilians and law enforcers, as well as coming of operative information about possible terrorist attacks by the Georgian security services. People are checked for identity documents confirming their identity and fact of their residing in the area”.

It should be noted that a few days ago, "security council" of Abkhazia held a special meeting on security issues in the Gali district. And yesterday they started to tighten movement across the line of occupation, in particular, on the Enguri bridge. According to the Club of Experts, restrictions affected persons that did not have so-called Abkhazian passports.
