20/06/2012 13:32

Turkish cargo ship Khakki Chillioglu Georgian crew of which was evacuated in March this year after a 10-month stay on it, got in trouble again. This time it struck aground near Pitsunda.

The incident happened during fuelling of the ship in Pitsunda. Due to a storm the ship struck aground 150 meters from a pier. Another cargo ship that was standing nearby was trying to help the crew, but a storm at sea did not allow conduction of a rescue operation. At present the ship is left without fuel that is needed to drop large anchors that are driven by powerful motors.

The Abkhazian side turned to the Russian side for help since they themselves have no equipment to tow the cargo ship.
