"Good news" that the Abkhazian authorities "welcomed". That was how head of the Sukhumi regime Alexander Ankvab described appointment of the governor of the Krasnodar Territory Alexander Tkachev as a special representative of the President of Russia in Abkhazia.
"From the standpoint of Abkhazian interests we are very happy with this appointment" - Ankvab told TV company Channel Nine - Kuban. He reminded that Tkachev "helped Abkhazia" even before Moscow recognized independence of the occupied regions of Georgia and "this help was significant".
Alexander Ankvab believes that in his new capacity Alexander Tkachev "will be able to move any topic, any question more quickly" of those that must be addressed in Abkhazia - in particular, "development of economic relations" with Russia's south and "many others". At that the Abkhazian "president" noted that the Krasnodar governor "knows very well about them” and "has already suggested ways to resolve them" since Ankvab and Tkachev have repeatedly discussed these issues.
"I think many agreements will be signed on development of relations between Kuban, Russia as a whole, and Abkhazia – said the head of the Abkhazian regime. - And plans that we outlined for 2013-2016 and that are connected with assistance of the Russian Federation to Abkhazia are well-known to Alexander Nikolaevich. I am sure he will do everything in his power to ensure that they are implemented. "
At the same time Ankvab stood up for Russia's "ambassador" in the occupied region Semen Grigoriev, in respect of which a large number of ambiguous evaluations in the light of Tkachev’s appointment were heard in the last few days. According to Ankvab, “the Russian Federation has a worthy ambassador in Abkhazia and his policy is not completely toothless as some are trying to emphasize."
