A new two-way road bridge has been put into operation on the Abkhazian section of the Russian-Georgian border. There is a pedestrian crossing on one side of the bridge. The old road bridge will be still used but, eventually, and most likely by the spring, it will be closed for renovation, Apsnypress reports.

The bridge was opened by Russian President Dmitry Medvedev himself who came driving his car. Medvedev was accompanied by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

Ankvab "bowed" to Russian builders for "good work". Construction of the bridge on the River Psou took 18 months.

Afterwards Ankvab and Medvedev went over to the Russian side to inspect the new Sochi terminal. A part of the border crossing on the Georgian side is still under construction.
